New Documentary Gives Women with Hemophilia a Voice
- By BSTQ Staff
A new documentary film titled “Dismissed,” which was premiered at the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation’s Bleeding Disorders Conference in Aurora, Colo., features the lived experiences of five women with hemophilia. At the film’s center is 15-year-old Isabelle, a rare case who received early care and now advocates for others. Alongside her are a pregnant mother without a treatment plan, a woman confronting symptoms she’s long hidden and another left partially paralyzed after being dismissed by doctors.
The film shows how delayed diagnoses, limited or lacking treatment and care options, and a gap in understanding about how bleeding disorders uniquely impact women. It is a call to action for recognition, advocacy and change.
